Community Research and Development Annual Division MeetingÊ FRIDAY AUGUST 9th, 12:30pm Ð 2:10pm Montreal Le Centre Sheraton Ballroom West Minutes 1. Introductions a. In attendance: Teresa Gonzales (chair), Gabby Gomez (gabby.gomez@okstate.edu); Susan Halverson (shalver2@pax.edu); Paul Draus (draus@umich.edu); Keisha Muia (muia@pdx.edu) 2. Discussion of Awards a. Graduate Student Award Susan and Keisha highlighted that the timing is hard, if itÕs finished they want to submit it as soon as they can. Susan also indicated thatÕs itÕs hard when faculty co-authors are not allowed. Keisha suggested changing the award to best student paper presentation (opens it up to MasterÕs students, and makes it more accessible). Paul is in favor of making this more accessible. There are so many other ways to deliver information nowadays. We should be more progressive in how we think about that. Accessible research product thatÕs shared with community members? Video, infographic, Gabby mentioned that this approach opens up opportunities for more people to submit options. Paul also stated that changing the criteria might be a boost for a student to publish something. Can we add an UG student paper award? b. Community Partner Paper Award Ð no money to winner (ask Urmi to review paper award for next year) Ð asked. Urmi said yes! We discussed removing the monetary incentive from this award. The group was unanimous in shifting the funds to graduate and undergraduate students. c. Public Scholarship Ð 2 awards, $150 each We discussed creating two new awards, one open to undergraduates and another open to graduate students. These awards are focused on public scholarship and will accept multiple formats. d. Recruitment for the awards We had no submissions for the student paper award this year. Members suggested reaching to individual faculty and encouraging them to nominate their students (UG and Grad) for our multiple awards. 3. Name change? We discussed changing the division name to reflect our values better and ensure all members feel represented. Several potential names were discussed. 4. Session Proposals for 2025 (all are related to meeting theme in 2025) Ð2 individual sessions, 5 co-sponsored session We discussed the following sessions for next yearÕs meeting. This included suggestions by present members and members who emailed chair, Teresa Gonzales, suggestions ahead of time. a. Standalone: A methods-focused session that emphasized community co-creation in the scholarship.Ê That could be a more open thematic, but one that we emphasize the call for co-creation and community voice. b.
