Pham Happy Spring to all! As I get ready to pass the torch to our incoming Division Chair, alithia zamantakis, I want to take the opportunity to thank her for her two years of service in the Associate Chair position, and for taking on the responsibility of Division Chair. Also, a very big “thank you” to all the division members I’ve had the pleasure of working with and getting to know over these past few years. In this issue you will find information regarding the 2024 annual meeting, our Division Award winners and the results of the Division Chair & Associate Chair elections. Publications, cont., & Job Announcements Amin Ghaziani, University of British Columbia, published Long Live Queer Nightlife: How the Closing of Gay Bars Sparked a Revolution (Princeton University Press), which the New York Times reviewed: LGBTQ+ bars have undergone a startling decline globally over the past 20 years. More than half of London’s LGBTQ+ venues closed between 2006 and 2016, and the in the U.S. an average of 15 gay bars closed every year from 2008 to 2021. “Save your tears, because queer nightlife is alive and well,” writes the New York Times in its review of Amin Ghaziani’s new book, Long Live Queer Nightlife: How the Closing of Gay Bars Sparked a Revolution. “In fact, it’s even better than ever, having evolved into a more progressive, sophisticated form.” The Sociology Program at Oglethorpe University invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position for academic year 2024-2025, beginning in August 2024. The teaching load is 3/3, with service commitments to be negotiated. Candidates should expect to teach the following courses: Introduction to Sociology, Race and Ethnicity, Crime and Deviance. A Ph.D. in Sociology at the time of appointment is required.
